Romania
Light Your World Ministries radiates good will and hope for the people of Romania, which otherwise would have limited exposure to God’s word. As I share about the organization’s history and purpose, I ask you to consider becoming part of such a worthy venture. Stock Creek Baptist Church of Knoxville, Tennessee, began missions trips to Romania approximately seven years ago. Their focus was to sing, witness, and work in various outreach efforts. I was among these modern day missionaries. My participation in this journey moved me to create an organization specifically devoted to spreading God’s light to a dark world, thus, the birth of Light Your World Ministries. I personally believe this ministry has already made and will continue to make a tremendous impact on non-believers. Currently, Light Your World Ministries continues to focus only on Romania. In the northern part of the country, one of the larger cities is Sate Mare. A remote area outside this city has been selected as an area of focus for the ministry. The concerted effort is to build and maintain a youth camp. Why focus on this specific target of need? In the city, the average income is less than $3,000 USD per year per household with even a smaller amount in the surrounding villages. Baba Novac is the village closest to the area designated for the camp. A large population of gypsies and orphans live on the streets of this rural community. Since Romania has joined the European Union, state managed orphanages no longer exist. Many of these homeless children are not accepted by the locals. Missions like ours, which is privately funded, provides opportunity for outreach to the children and builds the capacity to establish strong family values. During the last three years, Light Your World has been working to create a summer camp for young people to attend and learn about Jesus Christ, while actively building cabanas for these young people to stay in during the summer camps. We have a goal to build 10 cabanas and ultimately a general use building. I am including a few pictures of our progress to date. Many of the tasks include a lot of manual labor, such as delivering water by horse and buggy to mix concrete, leveling foundations with tube water levels, and breaking rocks with sledge hammers to create foundations. Although the course has been difficult with obstacles and barriers, progress continues. Other caring individuals, such as you, have chosen to support the cause by giving financially or actively participating. As a result, we have completed the foundations for seven cabanas and completely finished one. We celebrate this achievement, but realize we have a long way to go. How can you be a part? You may have the question, “Which do you need most – people to go to Romania and actively serve or money to support the venture?” This was actually asked of me, and my reply was “Both!” However, much of the labor needed to build the camp can be acquired, using some of the labor force from Romania. This helps in at least three ways: 1) it considerably speeds up completion of the camp; 2) it supports growth of the local community; 3) it presents an active presence of the local people. As the people needed to support the cause can be found locally, our greatest area of necessity is financial support.Light Your World will continue to send teams to Romania until this project is Completed.
